Learning at New Life

Sermons

The Rev. Dr. Barbara Bond, in addition to having a long career as a parish priest, taught Education for Ministry (EfM) classes for more than 10 years. (Learn about EfM) She is a lover of history, having majored in it in college, and even now she teaches history to children in third through sixth grades at local libraries using the American Girl historical dolls. Her love and knowledge of history, scripture, and the Episcopal Church flows through her energetic sermons, which are well loved for teaching, encouraging, and inspiring her listeners.

New Life also periodically hears sermons from guest homilists and members who are Lay Preachers. Licensed Lay Preachers receive special training from the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio which equips them to preach faithful, relevant, biblically-based sermons.

The Episcopal Minute

In the newsletter and during the worship service on Sunday, Rev. Barbara teaches a brief lesson on an aspect of the Episcopal Church. A person, a practice, an historical or current event, diocesan or national governance, liturgy, music…you name it! Learning is lifelong at New Life!

Small Groups

New Life offers a weekly Wednesday Morning Group and a monthly Tuesday Evening Group. Other small groups are sometimes assembled for special studies, people new to the Episcopal Church, people being Received or Confirmed in the Episcopal Church, and current interests.

Special Events

New Life at times offers special events such as inviting speakers to New Life. New Life has conducted and attended retreats. There is often a Lenten Series that meets Wednesdays during Lent, sometimes as a soup supper and study. At times members may attend educational events in the area offered by other churches, retreat houses, and the like.

Ministries

There is much to be learned from each other as we minister together within our church and in our wider community. Serving on a team (Vestry, Spirituality, Communications, Outreach in the Community, Special Event, Altar Guild, Building and Grounds, Intercessory Prayer …to name just a few) puts us shoulder to shoulder with people who can teach us or who are learning with us how to best love God and love people. We journey together!
