When I hear of some terrible violence … a shooting, someone hurts or kills another, my first reaction is seldom my best: I despair. Then I wonder: From whence this urge to hurt? What is the root of violence? What happens in a life to bring someone to this? Who could do such things to another if they themselves were not … and so it goes … I am caught up in a cycle, a circle, with no certainty, and seemingly no end. Then it dawns on me: That this is God’s work … that I am not God … but I am God’s helper.
