Holy Conversation resumes on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. The new book in our conversation series will be Inwardly Digest The Prayer Book as Guide to a Spiritual Life, by Derek Olson. If you need to order a book, please let Fr. Phil know by Sunday, December 18 so they can be ordered and arrive in…
New Life is currently in the process of discerning the call of a new rector. While this process may seem slow, it is critical that we go through this time of self-reflection to hear God's wish for the future of our ordained leadership.
Did You Know? – Vestry
Did you know that the Vestry is the governing body of the parish? New members are elected each year at the annual meeting in November.
The Senior Warden is the head lay person in the parish, while the Junior Warden is typically responsible for building and grounds. The Clerk records all vestry proceedings, and the Treasurer is responsible for the financial details of the parish.
The Clerk and Treasurer do not need to be elected to vestry to serve in those positions.
Did You Know? – History
Did you know that New Life is the result of a merger between two parishes? St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Akron, and St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Uniontown came together in December 2002 to worship as New Life Episcopal Church. We remain one of the rare successful church mergers!
Did You Know? – Lectionary
Did you know that a Lectionary is a collection of scripture readings appointed for worship on a given day or occasion?
At New Life we use the Revised Common Lectionary for our Sunday lessons.
Vanderbilt Divinity School provides a great resource for finding this weeks scheduled lesson, as well as the lessons to read for any week of the three year church cycle.

Did You Know? – Individual Ministries
Did you know that at New Life, people are nurtured and prepared to identify and use their gifts to be God’s hands in our hurting world?
Individual members of our congregation serve people and communities through myriad ministries outside the church in our local communities.
These ministries include providing food, clothing and money to the poor, tutoring children, participating in a variety of support groups, going on mission trips and mission events, and serving as volunteers with social service agencies, hospitals, the YMCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other youth organizations. You will find New Life servants at nursing homes, at the Ronald McDonald House, in prisons and group homes.
We have as many ministries outside our church as we have gifts and interests! This means that there are opportunities to join a fellow parishioner and gain both fellowship and ministry opportunities!
Did You Know? – Deacon Josh
The Rev. Josh Butler is a Vocational Deacon in the Diocese of Ohio.
It is the deacon who ends the service, dismissing the congregation to go out in the community to serve. In his Deacon’s Dismissal, Josh offers reflections to strengthen and inspire us in our call to service.
