| Advent Candle Litany |
Page 1 of 4 Every year at Advent we begin a time of waiting, a time of anticipating. We await the birth of our saviour. During Advent we have the opportunity to reflect on the past year, to connect with that still, small voice inside us, and consider what it means to us to experience the birth of Christ. Often, we do this through the ritual of the advent wreath. New Life is no different. We preface each Sunday service during this season with the Advent Candle Litany. Because so many people have asked for a copy of this litany, we have added it to the website. Please continue reading for the litany, or you can download a printable copy here: Advent 1In the beginning, there was chaos. There were troubled dreams, uncertain sounds, and fear in the darkness. Then, when the chaos was most threatening, when uncertainty seemed the only certain thing, the cup seemed perpetually half empty, and the light at the end of the tunnel turned out to be just our imagination, God said, "Let there be light." And there was Hope. [light first Advent candle] The light of Hope lifts our eyes and calls us forward in Advent. To our uncertain and timid world, it proclaims brazenly that there is a tomorrow. It asserts that hope for the future is not to be found in improved financial portfolios or better self-affirmation. The candle of hope reminds us that there is something to cling to: God is and God will.
